Does a little thunder and a downpour of rain stop Boy Scouts from building a roaring campfire and having an outdoor barbecue? Absolutely not! Tonight our volunteer Boys Scout leaders, “Scouters”, from all over Northern NJ converged on Camp Alpine for the annual Twin Valleys District Roundtable BBQ to present awards to those who have inspired our youth over the course of the last year. In fact, the auspicious Mable Wood Mentor Award was given to one of our own—Paramus Troop 205 Scoutmaster, Bill Kyritz. Bill or “Mr. K” has been a mentor to many boys over the years as well as to the District in how he organizes events that are enjoyed by young men in Paramus as well as the many surrounding towns. For example, Bill has been instrumental in organizing the District Bowl-a-Thon so the boys can have some competitive fun during their winter break. Many parents and Patrol Leaders from Troop 205 came to show their support of their leader in earning his award.
This particular District Roundtable was unique in that it marks the very last event that would fall under the umbrella of the Twin Valleys District. The Boy Scouts of America have decided to consolidate the organizational structure and will be combining three separate districts into a single entity this summer. More details will be coming soon, but the leadership team is excited to meet the new challenges in making the best program possible for the boys.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to all of our Scout leaders for the hard work they put into making a quality program for our youth.
